Because ‘Morrowrim’ doesn’t sound as catchy and risks sounding like an obscene physical act, a team of modders have been hard at work on Skywind. Quite simply, the mod will bring Morrowind into Skyrim’s engine, ruining any excuse you have for not playing one of the most loved Elder Scrolls title in the franchise. They’re even looking to port Oblivion over, most likely as a separate project; imagine how cool it’ll be if you could use a portal to travel between Morrowind and Cyrodiil with the same character.
There’s no release schedule yet of course but the project is in good hands, a selection of screenshots and videos now available showing off the strange lands of Vvardenfell, home to the xenophobic Dunmer (dark elves). I’m wondering if the project intends to recreate an authentic Elder Scrolls III experience or improve on aspects such as barren terrain and wildlife. How will they tackle NPC conversations which were for the most part text-based? And will it be compatible with other Skyrim mods, considering how you get far more equipment slots in Morrowind? Imagine the Nerevarine becoming the Dovahkiin; would be handy to Dragon Shout those pesky Cliff Racers.
The team — which includes Eloth, the modder that helped create Morroblivion — are currently looking for volunteers to speed up the project. If you’ve got the skills and the time then hop on over to their development forum to see how you can help.
Thanks for the heads up, PC Gamer.
